FRENCH POP LYRICS

Let’s stick with Serge and his songs for actresses, but jump back a couple of decades…

The Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne created memorable metal dresses in the late sixties which were worn by iconic women such as Brigitte Bardot and Françoise Hardy. Here Serge Gainsbourg has a chuckle at one of the obvious drawbacks of this trend. The song was written for the actress Michèle Mercier and it appears in her 1969 film ‘Une veuve en or’ (‘A Golden Widow’). More recently it has been covered by Élodie Frégé.

More info and some great pictures of Rabanne’s metal dresses can be found here.

THE GIRL WHO GOES TCHIC TI TCHIC

I'm the girl who goes (tchic ti tchic)
My metal dress goes (tchic ti tchic)
Yes it really goes (tchic ti tchic)
With each movement I make (tchic ti tchic)
When you can't hear it any longer (tchic ti tchic)
When it stops (tchic ti tchic)
It means that I'm no longer wearing (tchic ti tchic)
My little aluminium dress (tchic ti tchic)

In my silver dress (tchic ti tchic)
I feel as if a current (tchic ti tchic)
Of two hundred and (tchic ti tchic)
Twenty volts is descending (tchic ti tchic)
Down the column of my (tchic ti tchic)
Spine, it's like (tchic ti tchic)
I'm conducting a man (tchic ti tchic)
From Gomorrah to Sodom (tchic ti tchic)

I'm the girl who goes (tchic ti tchic)
My metal dress goes (tchic ti tchic)
Yes it really goes (tchic ti tchic)
With each movement I make (tchic ti tchic)
When you can't hear it any longer (tchic ti tchic)
When it stops (tchic ti tchic)
It means that I'm no longer wearing (tchic ti tchic)
It so I must be nude (tchic ti tchic)
