LA IDIOTA EN MI (MAYOR) by CHRISTINA ROSENVINGE & BENJAMIM BIOLAY June 1, 2016

Recently this blog has been split fairly evenly between Spanish and French songs. In an attempt to unite these two factions, here Christina Rosenvinge and Benjamin Biolay do a bilingual duet. Actually, most of the song is in Spanish, but Biolay sings his section in French (in italics below). It comes from Rosenvinge’s album ‘La Joven Dolores’ (2011) which is a favourite of mine. Both artists have featured several times on this blog, so click on their name tabs if you want to see more of their songs.

NB The Spanish often use the solfege (do-re-mi) system for music. So mí translates as both ‘me’ and ‘E’ (the musical key). The pun doesn’t translate particulary well to English unfortunately.

LA IDIOTA EN MÍ (MAYOR)

El verano fue tan imparcial
Que nos hizo polvo a los dos igual
Todo se perdió en el vendaval
Lo que era cimiento
Lo que era cristal

ESTRIBILLO:
La canción que me aprendí
Para ti no era ésa
La última vez que te vi
Pude recordar
Descansa, ven y duérmete
Tanta furia para qué?

La página está por escribir
si tú te negaste, yo no me atreví
la idiota en mi te dijo adiós
Aunque lloraba no se notó

ESTRIBILLO

Canta, que yo tocaré
Hasta que te haga volver

De nous, de nous deux
il ne reste rien
qu'un souvenir horrible
se rincer de vin.
De nous, de nous voeux
qui ne servirent à rien,
je brûle le plus que
et garde les plus vains

La canción que me aprendí
Para tí era ésta
la última vez que te vi
pude recordar
empieza y acaba en mí
y dice aquí en la letra
que no podrás vivir sin mí
¡qué fatalidad!

Descansa, ven y duérmete
Tanta furia para qué
Canta, que yo tocaré
Hasta que te haga volver
THE IDIOT IN ME (MAJOR)

The summer was so impartial
It knackered us both equally
Everything was lost in the gale
That which was the foundation
Which was crystal

CHORUS:
The song that I learned
For you wasn't this one
The last time I saw you
I could remember
Relax, come and fall asleep
Why are you so angry?

The page is for writing
If you refused, I didn't dare
The idiot in me told you goodbye
Although I was crying it wasn't noticed

CHORUS

Sing, I will play you
Until you return

Of us, of us two
There is nothing left
Than a horrible memory
Rinsing our mouths out with wine
Of us, of us wishing each other the best
But to no avail
I burn more than
Those that guard the most vain

The song that I learned
For you was this one
The last time I saw you
I could remember
It starts and ends in me
And it says here in the lyrics
That you won't be able to live without me
How tragic!

Relax, come and fall asleep
Why are you so angry?
Sing, I will play you
Until you return
