FRENCH POP LYRICS

Pussy Cat started out in the short lived girl group Les Petits Souris. She then went solo and released several singles, including French reworkings of Brit hits, but enjoyed only minor success. Évely Courtois (her real name) then had a bit of a rethink, and after a year out she came back in 1968 with blonder hair and this darker single (which she also co-wrote).

She is interviewed in the excellent book “Yé-Yé Girls of ’60s French Pop”.

DANS CE MONDE DE FOU

Dans ce monde de fou
Dans ce monde de fou
On court tous les matins
On court après son train
On arrive essoufflé
Même les jours fériés

Dans ce monde de fou
Dans ce monde de fou
On travaille pour manger
On mange pour travailler
Et on a plus un sou
Pour aller s'amuser

Dans ce monde de fou
Dans ce monde de fou
Si tu as pris le train
De ce monde de fou
Tu iras jusqu'au bout
Tu iras jusqu'au bout

Jusqu'au bout du chemin
Jusqu'au jour de ta fin
Tu quitteras le train
Pour laisser derrière toi
Un homme qui sera
Encore plus fou que toi

Dans ce monde de fou...
De fou, de fou, de fou, de fou...
IN THIS WORLD OF FOOLS

In this world of fools
In this world of fools
We run every morning
We run after our train
We arrive breathless
Even on holidays

In this world of fools
In this world of fools
We work to eat
We eat to work
And we don't have a penny left over
To go out and have fun

In this world of fools
In this world of fools
If you've taken the train
In this world of fools
You will go to the end of the line
You will go to the end of the line

Until the end of the road
Until the end of your days
You will leave the train
To leave behind you
A man who may be
Even more of a fool than you

In this world of fools...
Of fools, of fools, of fools, of fools...
