FRENCH POP LYRICS

This is the opening track of ‘Rose Kennedy’ (2001), the debut album by the French singer-songwriter Benjamin Biolay. It is a concept album centred around the Kennedy family. Rose was the mother of John F. Kennedy who was murdered in November 1962. I recommend the album which is a grower.

Biolay is frequently compared to Serge Gainsbourg, and like Gainsbourg he often collaborates with other artists, most of whom just happen to be beautiful women.

REFRAIN:
Novembre toute l'année
Toute l'année c'est novembre
Le ciel est blanc
Le ciel est blanc cassé

La pluie à contre jour
Le temps des retours
Des grands départ dans l'autre sens
Quelque part je pense

Novembre est éternel
La vie est presque belle
Les souvenirs sont des impasses
Que sans cesse on ressasse

REFRAIN
NOVEMBER ALL YEAR LONG

A skewed life
The absent light
A brick pavilion covered in ivy
Somewhere on Earth

A subdued life
The absinthe light
It's always showing the same movie
Somewhere in this square

CHORUS:
November all year long
The whole year it's November
The sky is white
The sky is off-white

The rain against the light
A time for returns
For great departures in the other direction
Somewhere, I think

November is eternal
Life is almost beautiful
Memories are dead ends
Which I ceaselessly dwell on

CHORUS
