DIANA DIVAGA By LOS ABUELOS DE LA NADA August 15, 2013

Here is a sunny slice of Argentinian psychedelia from 1968, with strong echoes of Syd Barret era Pink Floyd.

The group, whose name translates literally as ‘The Grandparents of Nothingness’ only released this one single, though singer Miguel Abuelo continued to be active in music.

He revived the band name in the eighties, with new members including a very young Andrés Calamaro. Really the groups were related in name only, but the eighties version was by far the most successful.

Spanish Pop Lyrics has included quite a few acts from South America recently, not least Argentina. A great source for information about these groups is The Magic Land, an A-Z of Argentine and Uruguayan groups from the 60s and 70s: magicland

DIANA DIVAGA

.

Diana es la niña

que besa las flores,

saluda a los pájaros y canta…

.

ESTRIBILLO:

Diana divaga,

yo acaricio su piel,

ella me da un beso,

yo escapo con él.

.

Tiene una historia verde y amarilla,

con una guitarra y un pan…

.

Ahhh…

.

Diana, vienen hombres hacia acá

Diana, no te pongas a llorar

Diana, que ya sana, que ya va

Diana,

a tus flores pisarán

.

ESTRIBILLO

.

Tiene una historia,

mi Diana divaga

que cuando la miro

con ansias sonríe

y cuando anochece…

DIANA WANDERS

.

Diana is the girl

who kisses the flowers,

who greets the birds and sings…

.

CHORUS:

Diana wanders,

I caress her skin,

she gives me a kiss,

I run away with it.

.

Her story is green and yellow

with a guitar and a loaf of bread…

.

Ahhh …

.

Diana, men are coming this way

Diana, don’t start crying

Diana, already healthy, already going

Diana,

I will trample over your flowers

.

CHORUS

.

She has a history,

my wandering Diana

and when I see her

I smile with yearning

and when it gets dark …

.
