ENGLISH:

Here is another song from 1966 by The (or Los) Tomcats. Here the Brits take on a traditional Spanish song, which like ‘A Tu Vera’ is often associated with Lola Flores. They subject it to a Bo Diddley style beat, with rather wonderful results. You can hear Lola belting it out in a more traditional manner below.

SPANISH:

Tomcats eran un grupo de Británicos que se transladaron a España para buscar la vida. Allí tenían un poco mas éxito que en Inglaterra. Cantaban en castellano con un acento un poco raro, pero con todo energía.

PENA, PENITA, PENA

.

ESTRIBILLO:

Ay, pena, penita, pena, pena,

pena de mi corazón,

que me corre por las venas

con la fuerza de un ciclón!

.

Si en el firmamento

poder yo tuviera,

esta noche negra

lo mismo que un pozo,

con un cuchillito de luna lunera,

cortaría los hierros

de tu calabozo.

THE PAIN, THE LITTLE ACHE

.

CHORUS:

Oh, the pain, the little ache

The pain in my heart

It runs through my veins

With the strength of a cyclone

.

If from the heavens

If only I could have

This dark night,

as dark as a well

With a little knife from the moon

I would cut

the bars of your cell
