EL PERIÓDICO By TOPO December 1, 2011

We’ve heard Asfalto, one of the most popular Spanish prog bands, in an earlier post. After their first album Asfalto split in two, with one half keeping the name and the others forming Topo.

This track is from their eponymous debut album released in 1979. The mix of epic music and downbeat lyrics reminds me of Pink Floyd.

EL PERIÓDICO

Como cada dia compro el periódico
aun sabiendo que nada nuevo encontraré

Otra estúpida guerra, un alcalde que dimite
un vendedor agresivo, se necesita…
el real empata en casa.

El primer premio acaba en dos
nunca me toca la lotería
Leo una crítica pedante
sobre un libro que va a salir.

Una mujer maltratada por su marido
un chiste agudo sobre el gobierno
que nada va a solucionar..

Otra estupida guerra, un alcalde que dimite
un vendedor agresivo, se necesita…
el real empata en casa.

Como cada dia compro el periodico
aun sabiendo que el crucigrama
es lo mejor...
THE NEWSPAPER

Since I buy the newspaper every day
Even though I know I wont find anything new

Another stupid war, a mayor resigns
an aggressive salesman, ‘Wanted…’
Real Madrid draw at home

The jackpot was split
I never win the lottery
I read a pedantic review
of a book that’s coming out

A woman abused by her husband
A witty joke about the government
which isn’t going to solve anything ..

Another stupid war, a mayor resigns
an aggressive salesman, ‘Wanted…’
Real Madrid draw at home

Since I buy the newspaper every day
even though I know the crossword
is the best thing in it…
