LA BAMBA By LOS ESTUDIANTES May 28, 2011

‘La Bamba’ is really a Mexican folk song, but the version by Richie Valens in 1958 remains probably the most famous rock song sung in Spanish.

Los Estudiantes were one of the pioneers of rock & roll in Spain. Their version of ‘La Bamba’ was released on their first EP in 1960, and is arguably the first real rock record released in Spain. It’s a bit rough in comparison to Valens’ classic, but it was a start.

The drummer Fernando Arbex went on to greater things in Los Brincos.

LA BAMBA (Estudiantes version)

Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia ,
Y otra cosita
Arriba y arriba

Yo no soy marinero
Por ti seré

Para subir al cielo
Se necesita una escalera larga
Y otra chiquita

Yo no soy marinero
Soy capitán
THE BAMBA

To dance the Bamba
You need a bit of grace
A bit of grace,
And another little thing
Faster and faster

I'm not a sailor
I'll be yours

To rise up to heaven
You need a long ladder
And another little thing

I'm not a sailor
I'm the captain

LA BAMBA (Valens version)

Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia, para mi para ti
Arriba y arriba
Por ti seré

Yo no soy marinero
Soy capitán

Bam – bam – bamba…
THE BAMBA

To dance the Bamba
You need a bit of grace
A bit of grace, for me and you
Faster and faster
I'll be yours

I'm not a sailor
I'm the captain

Bam – bam – bamba…
