Translations of the best Spanish, French and German pop and rock songs

YO TENGO UNA NOVIA By JONATHAN RICHMAN March 1, 2011

The great American songwriter Jonathan Richman has written several songs in Spanish.
Some are translations of his English songs, but this is a Spanish original.
Though not gramatically perfect, ‘Yo Tengo Una Novia’ has got bags of charm.
It’s from his album ‘Her Mystery Not of High Heels and Eye Shadow’ (2001).
It also appears on the (mostly) Spanish compilation ‘¿Que Venimos Sino a Caer?’

YO TENGO UNA NOVIA

Yo tengo una novia
Que yo no esperaba
No, no la esperaba
En este tiempo...no no no

Yo tengo una novia
Y como estuve sorprendido
Asi un gran deseo venido (??)
Mi novia, oh oh oh

Pensé en nunca más amar
Pensé en nunca abandonar
a mis sueños
Pensé en nunca encontrar.
una novia...asi
Una novia...para mi

Yo tengo una novia
Que vida tan aventurada
No, no la esperaba
Una novia, oh oh oh
I’VE GOT A GIRLFRIEND

I’ve got a girlfriend
I wasn’t expecting
No, I wasn’t expecting her
At this time… no no no

I’ve got a girlfriend
And I was so surprised
This way a great wish came
My girlfriend, oh oh oh

I thought I’d never love again
I thought I’d never abandon
My dreams
I thought I’d never find
A girfriend… like this
A girlfriend… for me

I’ve got a girlfriend
What an adventurous life
I wasn’t expecting her
A girlfriend, oh oh oh

I’m not sure exactly what he’s saying in the seventh line,
it doesn’t seem to make sense gramatically.
An alternative could be: Mi gran deseo ha venido
