Spanish Pop Lyrics

Translations of the best Spanish, French and German pop and rock songs

LA NOCHE INVENTADA By FAMILY October 11, 2010

Family released their only album “Un Soplo En El Corazón” in 1993. The LP is often voted one of the best Spanish indie releases, and a tribute CD was published by the magazine Rockdelux in 2003. N.B. Obviously the Spanish Family are no relation to the British beardy-weirdy prog rock band of the same name!

LA NOCHE INVENTADA
*
Miramos aburridos
por el ventanal
para inventar otra vida
en la misma ciudad.
*
Dibújame una noche
llena de cohetes naranjas,
yo te daré las estrellas
y tú las pintarás de plata.
Píntalo todo de plata.
*
Te imagino al
volante de la nave espacial.
Yo volaré a tu lado
como Peter Pan.
*
Déjame hacerte una foto
con las nubes detrás,
Quiero tener algo tuyo
si un día te vas.
*
Dibújame una noche
llena de cohetes naranjas,
yo te daré las estrellas
y tú las pintarás de plata.
Píntalo todo de plata.
si nos vas a dejar.
THE NIGHT DISCOVERED
*
We look boredly
through the big window
To invent another life
in the same city
*
Draw a night for me
Full of orange fireworks
I’ll give you the stars
And you’ll paint them silver
Paint it all silver
*
I imagine you at the
steering wheel of a spaceship
I’ll fly at your side
like Peter Pan
*
Let me take your photo
with the clouds behind
I want to have something of yours
if one day you leave
*
Draw a night for me
Full of orange fireworks
I’ll give you the stars
And you’ll paint them silver
Paint it all silver
If you’re going to leave us

GRAMMAR:
I found translating the title the most difficult part of this one!
Inventar can mean to invent, but also to make-up something (a story or excuse).
However, in the (poetic) context of the title I think discovered is better.
