Sobre Un Vidrio Mojada (‘On a Wet Window Pane’) is a song by Los Secretos from their 1981 debut LP. They’re still going!

UPDATE: I’ve now discovered that this track is actually a cover version. The original was by Kano Y Los Bulldogs (a group from Uraguay) in 1969!

UPDATE: Click here to hear me sing this song in English!

SOBRE UN VIDRIO MOJADO

*

Sobre un vidrio mojado

escribí su nombre

sin darme cuenta

y mis ojos quedaron igual

que ese vidrio

pensando en ella.

*

Los cuadros no tienen colores

las rosas no parecen flores

no hay pájaros en la mañana

nada es igual (x3), nada

*

Hoy cuando desperté buscaba

el sol que entraba en mi ventana

tras una nube se ocultaba

nada es igual (x3), nada

*

ON A WET WINDOW PANE

*

On a wet window pane

I wrote your name

without realising

And my eyes were the same

as that window pane

Thinking about her

*

The pictures don’t have colours

The roses don’t seem like flowers

There aren’t birds in the morning

Nothing is the same (x3), nothing!

*

Today when I woke up I looked for

The sun coming into my window

It was hidden behind a cloud

Nothing is the same (x3), nothing!

*

*

GUITAR CHORDS:

Chorus:

E – C#m – A – E

Bridge:

C#m – A – B (x3)

F# – F#/F – B – B7-5/F

D – E

*

GRAMMAR:

Sobre can be a tricky word to pin down.

It can mean on or over something (as here), but also about (approximately) or about (a subject).
