Mejor (‘Better’) is a single from 1966 by Los Brincos. They were one of the most successful Spanish rock bands of the 1960s, and they are often referred to as the “Spanish Beatles”.

GRAMMAR:
The verse uses the imperfect tense to describe the past (era, decías, querias etc.) when she loved him – things were better!
The chorus switches to the present simple to describe the current (heartbroken) situation.
